Former Minister of Agriculture Jagath Pushpakumara, who was detained on charges related to corruption and misuse of public funds, has been granted bail by the High Court in Colombo.
The court decision came after an appeal by Pushpakumara's legal team, which argued that his detention could affect his mental health and prevent him from providing crucial evidence during the ongoing trial. The 70-year-old minister was released on condition that he adhere to certain restrictions including not leaving Sri Lanka without prior approval.
The decision marks a significant development in Pushpakumara's case, which has been under scrutiny for several months. His detention had sparked public debate about the misuse of power and corruption within government institutions.
