As of the latest update on July 11, Sri Lanka's dengue epidemic has claimed 47 lives and surpassed the 67,000 case threshold. Public health officials have intensified their efforts to curb the rapidly spreading disease, urging citizens to take precautionary measures.

Dr. Chandrapriya Ratnayake, a leading public health expert in Sri Lanka, emphasized the severity of the situation: 'We are witnessing one of the most severe dengue outbreaks in recent years. The virus is mutating and spreading faster than ever before, which makes containment extremely challenging.'

Public Health Measures Intensified

To address the escalating public health crisis, Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Public Health has launched a nationwide campaign. Community members are being educated on preventive measures such as eliminating standing water where mosquitoes breed and using mosquito repellents.

Dengue Cases Outbreak in Key Areas

According to the Ministry's latest report, high infection rates have been recorded in several key urban centers including Colombo, Galle, and Jaffna. The majority of cases are among young adults aged 15-35 years old.

Local health experts have warned that the situation could further deteriorate unless urgent action is taken. The World Health Organization has been in constant contact with Sri Lanka's public health department to share global best practices and collaborate on a comprehensive response plan.
