Following a period of unrest and security concerns, officials have decided that the Negombo Prison in Sri Lanka is no longer suitable for holding inmates. Authorities are currently looking to relocate the approximately 500 inmates to other facilities within the country.
The decision comes after multiple incidents involving violence and escapes from the prison over recent months, leading to fears about potential further disruptions if left unaddressed. As a result of these events, officials have deemed the Negombo Prison unsuitable for housing the majority of its population of inmates.
