Sri Lanka has lost one of its oldest and most remarkable citizens as Mrs. Lakshmi Dewage, the nation's oldest resident at 114 years old, passed away today.

Residing in Matara District since she was born, Dewage had been a source of inspiration for many Sri Lankans, particularly for her resilience and longevity despite enduring numerous health challenges throughout her life.

Honoring the Centenarian

The community organized a simple yet meaningful memorial service to honor Mrs. Dewage's memory on her birthday, with representatives from the local government also attending the ceremony.

Record-Breaking Life Span

While she was not alone in breaking longevity records within Sri Lanka’s population, Dewage had held the title of oldest woman for over a decade. Her passing has led to discussions on what measures can be taken to extend human lifespan and improve quality of life for elderly citizens.
